Chai Lifeline Team Shares Insights on Diabetes Management at Camp

Chai Lifeline’s Rivkah Reichmann, LCSW, Associate Director of Camp Simcha Special, Mushka Nathanson, BSN, RN, CPN, and Chris Lally, RN, CDES from Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone recently took the stage at the American Camp Association Tri-State Camp Conference to share critical insights on Managing Diabetes at Camp.

With 1 in 400 children affected by Type 1 diabetes, proper planning and training are essential to ensuring that every child—regardless of medical challenges—can safely and fully enjoy a summer camp experience. Their session provided best practices and tangible strategies to help non-medical camps be more inclusive and empower children with diabetes to thrive.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy and growth that summer camp provides, regardless of medical challenges,” said Reichmann. “By equipping camps with the right knowledge and tools, we can create an environment where children with Type 1 diabetes feel safe, included, and empowered to thrive alongside their peers.”
