Chai Lifeline, in partnership with NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital and the Center of Liver Disease and Transplantation, recently hosted a special event for the Jewish community at Columbia’s Pediatric Liver Disease and Transplant Center. This gathering, held on October 31, brought together leading pediatric specialists, community members, and families to strengthen connections within the Jewish community and provide critical health information.
Attendees had the rare opportunity to engage with Columbia’s specialized transplant team, gaining a firsthand understanding of the hospital’s innovative approaches to liver disease and transplantation.
The event included remarks from Rabbi Simcha Scholar, CEO of Chai Lifeline, who highlighted the importance of collaboration between medical institutions and community organizations in supporting families facing pediatric health challenges.
The program honored Dr. Steven Stylianos, a respected leader in pediatric surgery, as he transitions from his role at Columbia. Dr. Stylianos is succeeded by Dr. Vincent Duron, who will carry forward the legacy of exceptional care in pediatric liver and transplant surgery. Dr. Mercedes Martinez, Medical Director of Pediatric Abdominal Organ Transplantation, helped organize the event and addressed attendees, sharing insights into Columbia’s ongoing work in pediatric hepatology, gastroenterology, and transplant services. Dr. Jordan Orange, chief of pediatrics, was unable to attend but was recognized for his leadership and vision in supporting Columbia’s pediatric transplant team.
“Chai Lifeline is proud to be a bridge between the medical community and Jewish families facing pediatric health challenges,” said Rabbi Simcha Scholar, CEO of Chai Lifeline. “This event exemplifies our commitment to bringing together resources and support systems that empower families and provide comfort during difficult times. We are grateful to Dr. Stylianos for his years of dedicated service and look forward to seeing Dr. Orange’s leadership further elevate the exceptional care at Columbia.”
